About this deal

Mu-43 is a fan site and not associated with Olympus, Panasonic, or other manufacturers mentioned on this site. I will answer these questions and really see if there is a material difference in the final part of this series. this versatile lens is perfect for professionals looking for the absolute best performance from a telephoto lens. My keeper rate went down with continuous focus from what I want out of a camera, but it also it wasn't terrible.

I was shooting at ISO values between 1250 and 1600 (it’s winter here in the UK and light is in short supply). Credit is provided by Novuna Personal Finance, a trading style of Mitsubishi HC Capital UK PLC, authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. I selected the central AF point and tried to keep the rider in the red and blue silks in the center of the frame. Olympus likes to say how much smaller and lighter its lenses are than DSLR equivalents, and often cites comparisons with 70-200mm f2. But it’s a pretty standard slotted design, so if you’re coming from recent big lenses from other makers, you’re likely to know the drill already.

With a minimum focus distance of just 70cm at all focal lengths, a dedicated Fn button, manual focus clutch and a sliding, protective lens hood, the new 40-150mm f/2.

PRO lens is a fast telephoto zoom lens, it ensures easy mobility due to its compact size and lightweight design. Another word about sharpness – there is more to it than a fabulous lens, just be aware of that when making your appraisals. It needs to be appropriate to the speed of your subject and appropriate to your own handholding abilities.

Now there's a Micro Four Thirds telephoto lens that brings out the absolute highest imaging quality the camera has to offer. Then again, you can always rotate it up and out of the way and then use it as a handle to carry the lens and camera. A few months ago we saw Olympus release a wide to tele professional zoom lens which has now been followed by a fast tele zoom aimed at professional sports and nature photographers (this will no doubt appeal to portrait photographers as well).I use f-stop backpacks and was impressed to find I could just about accommodate the 40-150mm standing up in one of the deep ICUs rather than lying it on its side. You can see above how the lens handles a close subject in daylight, but I wanted to have some fun after dark with specular highlights, so below are two shots taken at 40 and 150mm at the maximum f2. Just head over to our dedicated Sell or Part Exchange page, fill out the details, and we'll get back to you with an offer for your old gear. Attempting nature photography at a very wide aperture can be risky and would generally be reserved for certain subjects in more predictable or creative conditions. That’s constant regardless of the focal length so you can get close in at 150mm to produce very shallow depth of field shots.

I have sharp lenses, and I’ve spent a lot of years using Canon’s finest, but I’m going to put my head on the block and say that I think this is up with the best. The lens is also dust, splash and freeze-proof like all Olympus Pro lenses, ideal for taking everywhere, particularly outdoors where weather plays a role. Olympus’ correction doesn’t take out all chromatic aberration in the extreme corners, but it takes out enough that most people would just ignore what does get produced. Everyone has seen these lenses, and it is usually the lens everyone associates hanging off a camera when you see a “big white lens. The apertures are formed by a 9-blade rounded diaphragm; the fast aperture, rounded blades, and 300mm equivalent focal length predicts decent bokeh in the out of focus areas.which measures 89x143mm and weighs 1050g – shorter than the Olympus, but thicker and still around 50% heavier. This helps the lens to serve its purpose as a compact sports, wildlife and action option, with an equivalent focal width of 80-300mm (35mm format). The corners are not as sharp, but with this type of lens I'm usually centering the subject and never noticed any softness in real world shooting in the corners. As you can see, my depth of field was extremely shallow, and I have to be very precise with my focus point on my subjects’ eyes. Even more important for Panasonic m4/3 body owners is that the 35-100mm has optical image stabilization built in.
