About this deal

The Positive Birth Book is like everything I ever Googled pre-birth rolled into a friendly, warm format and is full-to-burtsing with USEFUL information. For example, I am rhesus negative and to be honest I never really understood what that meant, I just did what I was told! This book explains it so well. It is also refreshing to read something positive about all types of birth – I didn’t feel like I was being preached to. I wish I had read this book during my pregnancies!”

Thank you Kim for the opportunity to read your book, it has made me realise that I am not alone and it is ‘normal’ for my birth to have impacted me after what I had gone through. I will be recommending this to friends and work colleagues whose birth has impacted them. New Active Birth contains a forward by the late Sheila Kitzinger, and an introduction by world famous obstetrician, Doctor Michel Odent. Three birth all-stars in one book! For many women who have had a traumatic birth, the thought of having another baby can be daunting. Svanberg has a useful chapter entitled ‘The Next Baby’ that talks through the options for reducing the likelihood of another traumatic experience, including hiring a doula or making use of peer support. She recognises that some women may want to avoid medical intervention as much as possible, while others will exercise their right to a planned caesarean – and that both these choices are legitimate. Some parents-to-be enjoy having a month-by-month rundown of what’s happening to their body and baby, and that’s just what you get in this book. We love it for its detailed index, which makes it effortless to browse through and find specific sections when you need them. It also has a week-by-week guide on the baby’s development, all written in a conversational tone that makes it feel as though you’re having a chat with your best friend.Olivia Gordon was 29 weeks pregnant with her first child when a scan revealed that something wasn’t quite right. As a consequence, she had to have a procedure performed in the womb to save her child, delaying his birth for another few weeks. The events that followed – a premature delivery, more life-saving operations, months in neonatal care – led Gordon to an interest in the new and revolutionary field of fetal medicine. This book is the result. Finally someone brave enough to say the words feminist and birth in the same sentence in a book that is not an academic polemic. Birth is THE feminist issue of our century and feminists have dropped the ball.”

Key concept : A form of antenatal education; an informative guide to hypnobirthing with evidence-based examples and logic to change the birthing approach and experience. Whatever a positive birth means to you, this book will make you believe you can do it. It’s the book I wish I had read before I had my children!” Green Parent Magazine Our groups are designed to help support girls aged 10-12 as they enter puberty and embark on their teenage years. We want to help make growing up for girls stronger, safer and better supported and all the things in your book fit perfectly with our mission. We help girls to learn about the changes that puberty brings, find mentors, learn from inspirational women and loads more, and your book is in perfect synergy with our work. Thank you for writing such a great book for all the girls out there who need this information in a clear and friendly format.”You won’t find some of the more well-known and most marketed childbirth books on BellyBelly’s list, but it’s for very good reason. My to do list includes more important matters like developing a new social identity, losing two stone, and raising a human” writes Luce Brett, whose life turned a yellowish-brown after a dreadful labour. The adult nappy aisle and the urogynaecology department were not where she expected to be at her age; as if navigating new motherhood wasn’t enough. As both a survivor of birth trauma, and now a perinatal mental health practitioner working with antenatal and postnatal parents, I found in this book a perfect balance of information, up-to date evidence-based research, survivor stories and practical tips. The authors use accessible and sensitive language throughout, and it was refreshing to read a chapter about the impact of a birth trauma on health professionals, as this is often not included in literature. Each chapter covers a great deal of information, including outlines on what to expect during doctors’ appointments, every possible pregnancy symptom that could occur, helpful tips for partners, exercises with diagrams and a whole lot more. There’s also a lot on mental health and how to make the best choices for you when dealing with a variety of issues that may arise.
