About this deal

If you’re hanging floor-length curtains and fitting them lower down, a 30mm pole will stand out enough to be seen and not be overpowered by the curtain. Now you'll need to measure and mark the centre point on your batten and one dead centre above your window.

The Silent Gliss 7650 Basic Electric Pole is an electrically operated pole that comes complete with a switch to open and close the curtains. It works in the same way as the Basic system and comes with a standard three pin mains plug so there is not need for an electrician to wire the product into the mains. The motor fits directly into the pole and runs a belt around the pole; this makes the pole much more efficient as well as being more reliable than other forms of operation. The design and look is the same as the 50mm Metropole and is available in seven different colours. The 7650 system has a manual override so that in the event of a power failure the curtains can be drawn by hand. In addition to the system operation the 7650 electric curtain pole also has a “touch and go” feature which will take over the operation of the curtain if it is ever pulled by hand. The motor and transformer are hidden behind the curtains ensuring that the product is attractive, simple and effective. This is a made to measure product that is made to your bespoke size. This is because we'd already marked where our pole was going to do due to the length of our curtains. Then drew a straight line from this with a spirit level. MARK YOUR CENTRE POINTAll Advent hardwood poles are sourced and finished in the UK and all are taken from sustainable and managed resources Our bespoke curtain poles come in a range of diameters from 19mm to 50mm. However, you don’t necessarily need a larger pole for heavier curtains. Base your choice on how prominent you’d like the curtain pole to be.

Then repeat the same marking and measuring for your curtain pole, then pre drill and screw to the batten. CAULKING TO FINISHThen push where you want it and leave to cure for 24 hours. Although I left mine for about 16 and it was good to go. PAINTING YOUR BATTEN Corded curtain polesare useful if you struggle to reach the top of your curtains to open and close them. Additionally, they can be used for delicate fabrics that could be damaged by frequent handling. You can also add roller gliders if the curtains are heavy. However, in bedrooms where windows may sit higher, or other furniture is needed curtains tend to cut off just below the windows. Similarly, kitchen curtains may do the same – so really there is no clear-cut rule on the matter. How far should a curtain pole extend beyond a window? Curtain poles with gliders, such as the Silent Gliss Metropole, are great at carrying heavy curtains. They operate smoothly and make handling bulky fabrics a breeze. Choose between the corded Silent Gliss 6120 and the uncorded 6130. However, I only used off cuts I had for this and didn't have a strip long enough. So I cut another piece to glue together to get my right length.

For more detailed information, our curtain pole buying guide explains how high your curtain pole should be. Should curtains touch the floor? I already know the height for the batten, it will be centred horizontally on the window, and I have already painted it. My intended method is slightly different, I have predrilled 5 holes in the batten, hole 3 being in the dead centre, the others equidistant. I plan to put a hole in the wall in the centre, matching the central batten hole, screw the batten (hole 3) to this while it is supported manually at either end, I can then adjust it around the centre to get it level, once level it will be manually held there and I will drill the other 4 pilot holes into the wall with a small bit, going through the pre-drilled holes in the batten, all done in place. To help your batten blend in to the wall even more, I used Painters Mate. It's similar to caulk but is flexible. I thought this was perfect for something glued to the wall. Ensure both surfaces are dust free and here's where I applied in a wiggle fashion from top to bottom. But as we were using curtains we already had, we didn't want the hassle of shortening them. And as they are very lightweight, we wondered about gluing a wooden batten for the curtain pole instead.

So to glue my batten together, I used Bostik's Fix and Flash which was gifted from an old unpaid craft challenge.
