About this deal

I tested this today while helping teach Sunday school (because, c'mon...it's only fitting), and it's a good choice for situations like that. I doubt anyone smelled anything, and if they did, it would've been just subtly during a hug or something. PB Premiere Amazing Grace* (a spot-on dupe for Philosophy's AG, it just doesn't have as good longevity and sillage). I went crazy over this when my friend started wearing it because she always smelled so fresh and clean and pretty. I know many people say the clean/fresh perfumes are boring, but to me, if your perfume wears YOU, you're doing it wrong. Anyway, I had to get a bottle based on how nuts I was for this scent, and I thought for sure I'd found my new go-to day fragrance. I just received this perfume a few days ago and it is NOTHING like I thought it would be! I was under the impression it would smell like a nice, clean, creamy soap. Kinda like a bar of Dove soap. Not at all. To me this smells so, so similar to Tom Ford's Soleil Blanc. I get a lot of that same citrusy coconut vibe that SB has. Almost verging on a citrus cleaner or bug spray. It's very nice. Something to put on after a shower and you will smell clean for 3-4 hours. Won't last all day and while it's most definitely not a "night-out" scent nor is it a "special occasion" fragrance...it's probably one of the BEST choices for your "casual jeans & T" or "running errands" scents.

At the time, Philosophy was getting a lot of attention in the beauty press, with so many people raving about the range, so I guess I just bought into the hype. (Not to mention the really good price-point being offered for gift sets for all three fragrances, on QVC that day). But when I received them in the post I was really underwhelmed. I tried 'Amazing Grace' as that was the one which seemed to be most popular, but when I went in to smell my wrist I was just like "eh, is that it?" I really couldn't understand what all the hype had been about. Soft, powdery, soapy floral. So soapy! So powdery! This is close to being one of those ideal just-out-of-the shower scents. Or your just-drifting-off-to-sleep scents. Or your damn!-everyone-keeps-telling-me-I-smell-clean-and-fresh scents. And - honestly - we all need at least one or two of those scents in our collection. You can trust the main accords proportion they've shown above for this one, exactly it's like that! I've never tried or smelled the EDP, so I can't compare them. But when I do, I'll write an update. I'm not sure if I'll like the EDP better because it was a rose note, and I'm not a fan of a rose accord. But we'll see!what I love about philosophy is the fragrances are soapy and inoffensive but have a selection of powerfully emotive notes. Top is super short-lived. Citrus for literally the first 2 seconds .. so fleeting I can’t really distinguish which citrus is present. (If I had to guess, mostly bergamot?) There’s also a brief, spicy, slightly green floral note. The rest of the wear is a fairly linear mix of slightly sweet florals and powdery musk. It definitely fits in with Philosophy’s “Grace” line .. that signature “clean”/musky accord forms the base of the fragrance. So if you like any of the above (except Simply Belle), you'll like (and probably love) Amazing Grace. Additionally, I was pregnant with my bubba (He's absolutely beautiful, thanks for asking!) last year/early this year, and the degree of powder in this scent made it intolerable to me while I was up the duff (I bought this perfume not long prior to getting pregnified). Unfortunately, I *know* this made me hesitant about cultivating a love for this fragrance. That old perfume-nausea association. And Pure Grace, well, only smells like Water Lily. I don't get any other note. Or perhaps, it smells like Ombrelle, and maybe that product shares the exact same notes.

I find the lasting power to be fine, though because I love the smell so much, I touch up over the day, especially if I've been running around. I imagine if someone hugged me they'd feel secure and warm, safe and happy. It's how I feel wearing it.For those reasons...it has it's place in my collection. Will usually wear it when I'm running to Laundromat & grocery store on a Sunday or something like that. I was probably 4 or 5 years old, at my auntie's cottage in St-Côme QC, when I smelled my first water lily. I loved it, and I still do. It is light and fresh, but with that muskiness in the base that makes it last on the skin. It doesn't lean too citrus or too white floral. It's a really unique blend that I haven't smelt in any other perfume! It's very feminine and soft.

On Fragrantica, these would be the EDTs: Amazing Grace 20th Birthday Special Edition, Amazing Grace Melarie Odelusi Limited Edition It's not a bad fragrance, but it's definitely not something I would buy. First of all, the fragrance itself is just... meh. Nice, but too basic… Don't get me wrong: it's delicate, fresh and clean, floral, slightly sweet and soapy. However, it's nothing memorable. I would love a body cream, deodorant or body wash with this fragrance, but not a perfume. Rather than an EDT it seems almost a cologne because of the low longevity. It's a good scent, but I almost feel like it has no personality. There are also some pros: I really like the minimal aesthetic of the bottle. I think it can be a good perfume to give to young people who want to approach the world of perfumes, quite blind buy safe in this case. Speaking of price, it's not bad, maybe slightly overpriced. By using a body lotion as a base, the fragrance stayed on my skin longer."

I don't think this is old fashioned, nor sexy, nor interesting, and certainly not memorable. But it's *nice* and clean, and finally my curiosity is satiated. I've smelled this before though, no doubt about it! It's very familiar, although I can't recall who it was on (it's actually driving me nuts). I have no doubt most people have encountered this somewhere, at some point. You'll probably think "Ohhhh...this! OK, I know this smell! 💡" They have a clean, soapy smell, so they are perfect for spraying right after showering and moisturizing your skin.
