About this deal

Fox siblings Ted and Nancy live in the big city but decide to find Grimwood, a faraway forest where they can lie low. Nadia Shireen’s first illustrated middle grade novel is a brilliantly hilarious and heartwarming tale, full of her trademark anarchic humour. Children’s & Young Adult All to Play For shortlisted for the UKLA Book Award 2023 in the 7-10+ category I’m fairly new to reading MG, but have been more than making up for it this year and Leonora Bolt is definitely one of my favourites of 2022! So well written, engaging, inventive and funny. It’s also inspiring to see a girl character with an interest in STEM. Opening scene: a dramatic chase at the luxurious Golden Pagoda Hotel, where Mr Penguin, the dapper Penguin detective and his team Edith, Gordon and Colin manage to recover a rare artefact from the hands of extremely villainous baddies. But what is this strange stone, and why does Professor Brace-Girdle at Cityville University want it so badly? Still, it’s not for Mr Penguin to ponder: as a paid adventurer, he just does what his clients request.

Leonora and her pals find clues that lead them to Luther's latest evil plan. It's an amusement park called Brightworld built in a desert, under a massive snow globe - and it's terrible for the environment! The Story-Makers Show was known as Puffin Virtually Live up until March 2019. The content and ambition of the show remains the same: to give every pupil the opportunity to engage with authors and illustrators in their own classroom using the power of the internet.

Leonora Bolt makes amazing gadgets from any old junk. And her inventions have already stopped villainous Uncle Luther TWICE, though she hasn't rescued her super-scientist parents from him - yet. I loved Leonora! What a fabulous and fun character, and a joy to read. An inspirational character for young readers. Kittens Woolfrik and Perigold set up a monster-hunting stall, although business is slow, as there appear to be no monsters on the islands of Pawdor. This hilarious comic-strip tale is quirky, colourful and fun, with plenty of riotous action. Mildew and Sponge race to solve the theft of the School Spoon in this hilarious, ridiculous adventure that takes in time travel, werewolves and even rogue Vikings. Leonora Bolt Secret Inventor is a really good story about a clever girl called Leonora who is a scientist who loves inventions.Leonora Bolt spends her days creating incredible inventions in her TOP SECRET laboratory, under the watchful eye of her terrifying uncle. Leonora was brave and I loved how she faced challenges head on, I liked her relationship with Millie the cook and how she made friends easily. Why are dogs domesticated? Why are sweets bad for you? These, and 364 other questions (including an extra one for a leap year), were sent to Molly Oldfield for her children's podcast Everything Under The Sun, and are answered in one extremely helpful book. Leonora isn't supposed to be building a submarine in a tree. Or turning the local wildlife luminous. In fact, she is supposed to be keeping her head down and drawing no attention - because Leonora Bolt is an inventor in secret. The fourth hilarious book in the brilliant STEM adventure series Leonora Bolt. With glorious illustrations by Gladys Jose throughout.

Ten year old Lori wants to be a detective when she grows up, and she's got all the kit - but crimes are a bit thin on the ground. That is, until her best friend Max's phone is stolen and the pair leap into action!A cross between Poirot and Indiana Jones for younger ones, it’s a great book for reading aloud with all the silly puns, retro names and hilarious catchphrases. Colin the message-writing spider is a particular joy, along with motobike-riding, bumbag-wearing Edith. A fabulous and fully illustrated rhyming story about a magical kitten and the family who adopt her. Ideal for newly independent readers or as shared reading with younger children.
