However, Raithe ends up growing a lot as a leader as the book continues, while his multiple sniper scenes contain some of the best action in the entire novels.

Assassinorum Kingmaker Black Library - eBook: Assassinorum Kingmaker

We do not determine the guilty; we do not decide the punishment; we are merely the cold instruments of the Emperor's vengeance. Pict-skull footage is sent to the governor, and he falls back into the Imperial fold within the week. As an aside, the subtlety of assassins and the bang-crash-wallop of armiger mechs goes together far better than anyone could have expected.

Rath provides an excellent balance of story elements in this first half of the novel, and the reader gets a fantastic mixture of character development, massive universe building, political intrigue, spy elements and some early mecha-action, all of which is a ton of fun and ensures that the reader is firmly addicted with this novel. As such, Kingmaker has a pretty broad appeal, and I loved seeing the great ways he expanded and explored some crazy groups. There are two elements of Kingmaker that really worked for me, and the first of these is how it functions as a love letter to spy thrillers as a genre. He must know how to drive and sanctify everything from an armoured bike to a small spacecraft, must be able to convince truculent Machine Spirits to do his bidding, and clean, disassemble and reconsecrate his wargear whenever necessary.

Black Library Book of the Year – The Winners! - Warhammer

M32) - The Culexus Assassin Dranos is sent to destroy the Chaos Sorcerer Xantaka before he can conjure any more daemonic legions from the Warp. Sure enough, as the planet's moon is bisected by the spire, a telltale flash from Scard’s observatory appears. Ostensibly a standalone read (although there is room to expand out into an extended series), this is a book that will appeal to a wide range of Warhammer fans, especially as it focuses on two particularly unique and brilliant Imperial sub-factions, the dual use of which clash together perfectly to create an awesome narrative. They must train in the most esoteric of weaponry and steel their bodies against the ravages of endless steroids and stimms.

Assassinorum: Kingmaker | Book by Robert Rath | Official

Rath also pulls off, very early in the novel, one of my favourite descriptions of a clandestine figure, noting simply that their appearance is too confidential to be set to paper. it's a very good story, it has a lot of set ups which you don't notice until the reveals kick in, which are done excellently. The thing catches fire and then explodes spectacularly, killing not only Urgak himself but also the vast majority of the Meks in his employ. It is said that a Vindicare can pick out a target's jugular vein or pupil from extreme range, even should the distance be traced through the ruins and smokestacks of an underhive sprawl.

Assassinorum: Kingmaker, by Robert Rath BOOK REVIEW: Assassinorum: Kingmaker, by Robert Rath

Just as Oilguzla launches his Deff Dread horde at the Space Marines protecting Hive Imperator, Scarvelli recovers her phase sword from its hiding place in a nearby stack of scrap metal and attacks. Their cold calculating stare draws attention to their eyes; pools of blackness that seem to pull one into a pit of nothingness. In time, these servants realised that they could not hide from even their own deaths forever, and that their skills must be passed on to a new generation if their great work was to continue. The author was able to successfully blend multiple key elements together into a very cohesive narrative which delivered the right combination of action, intrigue, character moments, world building, a little humour and more.Koln proved to be an excellent third member of the Assassinorum team, balancing out the impulsive Raith and manipulative Sycorax well. Adamus Assassins were dedicated to decapitation strikes intended to eliminate an enemy military force's command and control. Rath has a great and exciting writing style which I deeply enjoyed and which I found to really enhance the cool story.
