I finished Lightbringer, I’m 42 years old…these books take a long time, and I don’t have five massive series left in my writing career.

It also served as a great tool to break away and deliberately gloss over things that may otherwise have felt gratuitous. We’ll be keeping things spoiler-free for both Nemesisandthe original Night Angeltrilogy, so continue without fear whether you’ve read any of the series or not. If it doesn’t work for you it just doesn’t, but this is what I need to do, and I think it pays dividends.

BW: The reason I wanted to shift narrative styles in this one was partly to give this series its own identity. However, given that there is well over a decade between their publications, I think Night Angel Nemesis could only be enjoyed by having read (or carried out a recent reread) of the earlier novels. But I do envision this as the second movement that we’re in right now, I do envision a third movement. I expect that Night Angel Nemesis will be divisive among longtime fans on account of the different style.

There’s reasons why this story in particular needed to be told this way, and the next story, the next chapter, will be told differently I think for reasons that will become obvious as you reach the ending. So once you got done with that, we’re talking 10 or 12 books altogether, and I have plans for that but I’m not ready to share those plans in case I need to change them. It signals a huge expansion of the Night Angeluniverse, and now that it’s out, Weeks is finally teasing the grand plan he has ahead for characters like assassin Kylar Stern.

The fact that the stories set in Midcyru was billed as The Ka’Kari Codex fills me with the hope that this will become of the great vast series of the fantasy world. Skipping the boring parts, since then, Brent has written eight best-selling novels with the Night Angel Trilogy and the Lightbringer Series, won several awards, and sold a few million books. I could spin that out for a long time and have a very lucrative career, but that’s just not the kind of personality I have. The books were instrumental in my transitioning from teen fantasy to adult fantasy and they informed my preferences for years to come.
